Site Audit Tool (Chrome extension) · Last updated: September 19, 2026
In short: Site Audit Tool performs all of its analysis locally in your browser. We do not operate any backend that receives your data, and we do not collect, store, or sell personal information.
Who we are
Site Audit Tool is a Chrome extension developed and maintained by Komarov Yaroslav Igorevich ("we", "us"). This policy explains how the extension handles information on your device.
Information the extension handles
The extension does not collect any personal information. It never collects or transmits:
- Your name, email address, or any other contact details
- Your browsing history — the extension cannot read it and never asks for it
- Authentication data, passwords, cookies, or form input
Website content. To do its job, the extension reads the HTML of pages on the domain you ask it to audit, including titles, headings, meta tags, links, and image attributes. Chrome Web Store policy requires us to disclose this as data the extension handles, even though it is processed and stored only on your device and we never receive it.
The address of your active tab. When you open the extension's popup, it reads the address of the tab you are on, solely to pre-fill the domain field so you do not have to type it. That address is not stored, logged, or transmitted anywhere.
We do not use cookies, tracking pixels, analytics services, or advertising networks inside the extension, and we run no server that receives audit data.
How your audit data is handled
When you start an audit, the extension crawls the domain you entered, requesting its pages directly from your browser and parsing the returned HTML on your device. Nothing about the crawl is sent to us or to any third party.
Audit progress and results are saved in your browser's local extension storage so that a crawl can continue if you close the popup. This data stays on your computer. You can remove it by clearing the extension's data or uninstalling the extension.
To detect broken outbound links, the extension also sends lightweight requests to external addresses that the audited site links to. These requests only check whether the linked address responds; no information about you is included, and the result is used solely to mark the link as working or broken in your report.
Reports exported as PDF or CSV are generated locally and saved directly to your device by your browser.
Permissions we request
- Access to all websites — the extension crawls whichever domain you choose to audit. Because that domain is not known in advance, broad host access is required. The extension requests pages of the site you entered, and, to verify outbound links, sends brief availability checks to the external addresses that site links to. It does this only while an audit is running.
- Storage — saves crawl progress, results, and settings locally on your device.
- Alarms — keeps a long-running crawl alive and resumes it if the browser suspends the extension's background worker.
- Notifications — shows a local browser notification when an audit finishes.
- Offscreen — parses crawled HTML in a hidden local document. This processing happens entirely on your machine.
Our website
The extension opens a page on our website (site-audit-tool.dev) in three situations: once after installation, if you uninstall the extension, and if you choose to leave feedback from the report screen. Opening these pages is an ordinary web request, so our website receives the same technical information any website receives, such as your IP address and browser type.
These three pages use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count visits. Umami does not set cookies and does not build a profile of you across sites.
The uninstall and feedback pages also show an optional questionnaire built on Google Forms, asking why you uninstalled or how the extension could be improved. Filling it in is entirely voluntary, it does not ask for your name or email address, and if you submit it the answers are stored in Google Forms where we can read them. If you close the page without submitting, nothing is recorded.
None of these pages receive audit data or any information about the sites you have analyzed.
Limited Use
Site Audit Tool's use of the information described above adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use that information only to provide the extension's single purpose — auditing a website you choose for technical SEO issues. We do not transfer it to third parties, use it for advertising or personalization, or use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Sharing your information
We do not sell or rent personal data, and no audit data ever leaves your device. The only third parties involved are the two named under “Our website” above: our analytics provider, which counts visits to our three public pages, and Google Forms, which stores the optional feedback questionnaire if you choose to submit one.
Children
The extension is a technical tool intended for website owners and professionals. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the extension's functionality changes in a way that affects how data is handled, we will update this page and revise the date above.
